Disciplines are formally institutionalized groups of experts, learners, and materials that share a common set of principles and mechanisms for doing something. At its simplest you can think of a discipline as a culture, it has traditions, rules, accepted common sense, and a boundary between it and other groups. In general the word discipline can be used to describe a set of steps to accomplish something and the underlying beliefs and ways of doing that allow the practice.
